The star of "Desperate Housewives" could be sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The association, along with Rick Singer, helped wealthy parents cheat on standardized tests for their children. The singer has also bribed college coaches to falsely designate students as recruited athletes, thus facilitating their admissions process, says a criminal complaint.
Huffman and Singer exchanged emails on how to get more time for his daughter's SAT exam, the complaint said, and arranged for the girl to undergo the test in a controlled place by an administrator Singer had bought.
Huffman's daughter achieved a SAT score of 1,420 out of 1,600, about 400 points higher than her SAT preliminary examination the previous year.
Huffman later discussed this ploy during a recorded appeal with Singer, according to the complaint.
Huffman agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest service fraud in April. She was one of 13 parents who said they would plead guilty to the scam. Seventeen other parents, including actress Lori Loughlin, pleaded not guilty. A federal judge will have the final say on the outcome of the Huffman case and the other defendants.
In exchange for Huffman's plea, federal prosecutors will recommend incarceration in the lower end of the sentence range, a $ 20,000 fine and a 12-month probationary release. They will not bring new charges.
