Apple Announces Support for NFC Tags That Trigger Apple Pay

In early May, at the TRANSACT Conference in Las Vegas, Apple Pay's Apple Pay Vice President, Jennifer Bailey, presented some news Apple Pay features that Apple will deploy in the future.

As noted by Scott Harkey and Steve Moser on Twitter, Bailey describes support for new stickers or NFC tags that will trigger Apple Pay for a payment without needing to have an application installed.

When you tap these stickers, you'll be able to make a Apple Pay payment quickly and easily. Apple associates with Bird (a scooter company), Bonobos (a clothing store) and PayByPhone pay and display machines for the deployment of the service.

With this last service, you can pay a parking meter with Apple Pay then add more time to your meter from anywhere so that your parking does not expire.

Apple is also considering an instant registration feature for loyalty cards in the Wallet app in the near future. Dairy Queen, Panera Bread, Yogurtland, Jimmy John's, Dave & Busters and Caribou Coffee all plan to launch services that will use NFC tags allowing customers to sign up to receive loyalty cards.

New Apple Pay the features use the NFC features that Apple has begun to allow access in iOS 11. We could learn more about these new features at WWDC, which should begin June 3.
