HEMPSTEAD, Long Island (WABC) – The dog seen in a video of a fraternity party forced to hold a keg stand is now being taken over by the Nassau SPCA. The owner of the dog returned the dog Monday night.

"He felt that it was the best thing for him to do," said Det. Nassau SPCA. Matthew Roper.

Roper said Buddy, a 10-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was in good health. He is cared for in a veterinary office on Long Island.

The video, viralized on social media, shows the owner of Buddy – an elder of Hofstra University and a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi – and another member of the fraternity forcing the dog to drink in a barrel during a party outside the campus. house Saturday afternoon.

The SPCA visited the owner on Monday and informed him that he should take Buddy to the vet on Monday for blood tests and other tests. The SPCA was unable to seize Buddy because the dog lived in good conditions in the house of the fraternity, with plenty of food and water.

Roper said when registering with the owner on Monday night, that he had informed the SPCA that he had not taken Buddy to the vet.

"At that point, we decided to take the dog and get immediate veterinary care for the dog," Roper said.

The owner sent Buddy to the SPCA.

Roper said the alcohol and liver enzyme tests on Buddy had shown normal levels.

Roper said the SPCA had received nearly 100 phone calls from people wishing to adopt Buddy.

"He's the proof right now, so we have to keep him safe and healthy," Roper said. "Once the case is judged, will go to court, we will find him a place."

Hofstra put the fraternity in suspension, as did the national fraternity organization.

The Nassau AD will decide whether criminal charges should be filed.
