Fernando Alonso goes for a ride, or two, at Indianapolis 500 Practice

The Indianapolis 500 lasts almost two weeks, which means there is plenty of time to clean wrecks before the big day. That's exactly what Fernando Alonso, a retired Formula 1 star, has tilted into more than one wall during the second day of practice on Wednesday.

Motorsport.com reports that Alonso ran 50 laps at the first test session on Tuesday before having an electrical problem on his No. 66 McLaren powered by a Chevrolet engine, where he finished 32nd out of 39 cars. Prior to Wednesday 's crash, Alonso made 46 laps.

Alonso came out of the car alone and was allowed to drive, according to Racer, and said this later, via Motorsport.com:

"It was just understeer in the car. Even if I raised the throttle at the entrance of the turn, that was not enough. I've completely lost the aero before. The wall came too close and too fast.

"Unfortunately, it happened today and we will lose some more race time. I'm sorry for the team. We will learn and come back stronger tomorrow. "

Regardless of the day of the week, Alonso still has 11 days to go before the big race, where a defective car may not run well – something Alonso knows well – just like it started two years ago.
