Tattoo Ink Recall: FDA says tattoo products could be contaminated with bacteria

[ad_1]

The Food and Drug Administration has recalled six types of tattoo ink fearing their contamination by bacteria.

The ink, made by a handful of manufacturers, could cause infections and lead to serious health risks when it is injected into the skin, the FDA announced. Common symptoms of tattoo ink-related infections include the appearance of rashes or lesions when contaminated ink has been applied. Some tattoo infections can result in permanent scarring.

People who are considering getting tattooed or who have recently received one are encouraged to ask the artist or studio for the inks they use and avoid the recalled inks. Tattooists should avoid using or selling tattoo inks.

The recalled inks are:

Basic black tattoo inks Scalpaink SC, Scalpaink PA and Scalpaink AL manufactured by Scalp Aesthetics (all batches)

Dynamic Color – Black Tattoo Ink manufactured by Dynamic Color Inc (lots 12024090 and 12026090)

Solid Ink-Diablo Tattoo Ink (Red) manufactured by Color Art Inc. (dba Solid ink) (dba Antone's Ink) (lot 10.19.18)

People who think they have a tattoo ink problem should contact their health care provider and are encouraged to report to MedWatch: FDA Adverse Events Safety Information Program.
