BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sunday morning, the tallest building in the Lehigh Valley will collapse.
With its 21 floors, the Martin Tower housed Bethlehem Steel. It has been vacant for 12 years.
All week, people stopped to take pictures and find themselves in a last look.
"It's going to be sad not to have that big figure here, I'm actually more emotional about it than I thought," said Lisa Arechiga.
Efforts to save the building did not succeed.
By traveling along Highway 378, advertising signs mark the passage of the marker.
"Here is the North Star as far as this region. If you ever drive here, you say to yourself," Well, where the hell am I? Oh! There is the Martin tower. So I'm going there, "Mark Shively said.
While some people were nostalgic about the demolition of Martin Tower, others said that they found it ugly and that this demolition is a sign of a new era.
"Never fan, so it was a monstrosity to me.I'm glad to see him come down." For many people, this is a reminder of the failed steel and what happened to the area when they are gone, "said Bradley Slegel.
The inhabitants of the outside of the city also wanted to have a glimpse of the building before it disappeared.
Tom Romero is in the work area. He comes from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"We all took out our cameras, we took a lot of pictures, we talked to some of the locals, they tell us the history and the history of this building." really a neat place, "said Romero.
The streets will be closed around the tower on Sunday morning.
People are already planning where they want to look at the implosion.
"We are looking for places where we want to see it go down.I mean, I know it can not last forever, but it's still a little sad to know that it will not be there anymore," said Arechiga.
Newswatch 16 will be live in Bethlehem on Sunday morning when the building will be imploded at 7 am.
Join Andy Palumbo and Newswatch 16 Sunday morning for a glimpse of the end of the Martin Tower.
