The United States may temporarily relax Huawei's trade restrictions

The US Department of Commerce announced Friday that it could temporarily reduce restrictions on Chinese company Huawei Technologies, Reuters said.

The Commerce Department plans to issue a temporary general license to "prevent the interruption of existing network operations and equipment," Reuters reported, quoting a spokesman.

Only two days after Huawei and its 70 subsidiaries were added to the list of entities, the United States banned the company from buying parts and components from US companies without US government approval.

In response to the restrictions, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce described the initiative as "national security abuse and unilateral trade sanctions."

Huawei also responded that preventing Huawei from doing business in the United States would not make the United States safer or more powerful.

The restrictions "will only force the United States to use cheaper and less expensive alternative equipment and harm the interests of US consumers," Huawei said in a statement.
