The option to pre-order Borderlands 3 from the Epic Games store has disappeared without explanation.
During the night, after many publishers released their games from Epic's download platform at its first sale, the 2K publisher seemed to do the same with the much anticipated Borderlands 3.
Depending on the sale, the prices for the different versions of Borderlands 3 came with an eye catching 10. This meant that you could pay $ 39.99 for the standard edition of Borderlands 3 instead of $ 49.99.
Now, Borderlands 3 is simply "coming", with no way to pay. "It happened literally while I clicked to go to the cashier," wrote the editor Rosselman. "So frustrating."
2K also seems to have managed to pre-order the digital edition of the PC version on the Borderlands official website.
So what's going on? Epic declined to comment when Eurogamer contacted, telling us 2K, to whom we asked for an explanation. You would like to think that those who managed to catch Borderlands 3 with an absent customer will see their purchases honored – yesterday, in a statement, Epic stated that he would do the same for those who bought Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 on sale before he was removed.
As Emma Kent wrote in our coverage of the dramatic events at the Epic Games store yesterday, for newly launched games (and pre-order titles in particular), a drop in this slope's price could potentially devalue a game too early. Discounts are often used to extend sales of a game well beyond the exit. As a result, the lowered price leaves publishers little time for larger discounts. This may be the main reason for the withdrawal of Borderlands 3.
In the meantime, those who want to buy Borderlands 3 for download at the moment can not. This is an embarrassing situation for perhaps the most prestigious exclusive of Epic. The extremely popular Gearbox looter series of shooters has been a pillar of Steam for years. The third game of the franchise is an exclusive Epic Games Store until April 2020.
"The PC-based community has played an important role in the success of the Borderlands series, and we are excited about this partnership with Epic, which recognizes its global popularity and shares our commitment to bring Borderlands 3 to this growing audience." , commented 2K. President David Ismailer at the time of the confirmation of the transaction.
"Our mission, in addition to providing the most engaging and engaging entertainment experiences, is to adopt new distribution platforms that will contribute to our efforts to increase Borderlands 3's audience."
