The Mets (20-23, 4.5 GB in the eastern NL) lost the opening game of a three-game match against the Marlins 8-6. They are trying to bounce back on Saturday during a late afternoon match in Miami.
Here is what happened on Friday, in case you missed it:
Jacob deGrom imploded against the worst baseball team and a late rally turned out to be too little, too late in a 8-6 defeat against the Marlins. The right-hander took responsibility for the loss after the match.
Before the game, the Mets made a series of moves, including: Michael Conforto to be placed on the 7-day concussion IL, Keon Broxton intended to be assigned, the selection of From Carlos Gomez contract and recalled RHP Paul Sewald of Triple-A.
Gomez has played his first game in Met since 2007. The 33-year-old said his only wait was to help the Mets reach the playoffs.
Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen spoke on a number of topics, including questions about Mickey Callaway ahead of Friday's game.
Matt Cerrone from SNY explains how things can be played out between the Mets and Zack Wheelerwho is free agent after the season.
Pete Alonso continues to prepare for a great rookie season, scoring two more home runs, giving him 14 points in season, in Friday's loss to the Marlins.
