MAHWAH, N.J. – Dressbarn will close 650 stores, Ascena Retail Group announced on Monday.

The women's clothing retailer has branches across the country. There are eight Dressbarns in the Denver Metropolitan Area, with stores in Westminster, Northglenn, Littleton, Centennial, Parker, Castle Rock and Aurora (two locations).

"For more than 50 years, Dressbarn has been meeting the needs of women in fashion and we thank all our dedicated partners for their commitment to Dressbarn and our valued customers. This decision was difficult, but necessary, because the Dressbarn chain has not reached an acceptable level of profitability in retail, "said Steven Taylor, Dressbarn's chief financial officer, in a statement released on Monday.

Ascena Retail Group has not released a schedule for closures, and said the stores and the website remain operational. There is no change going on in the return, refund or gift card policies.

"During the withdrawal process, we will continue to provide our customers with the same great store and online experience, offering even better offers and added value. We will work to help our associates through the transition and maintain existing relationships with our suppliers, suppliers and other key stakeholders throughout this process, "said Taylor.

Ascena Retail Group also owns Ann Taylor, LOFT, Lane Bryant, Catherines and Justice.
