Taika Waititi Akira now has a release date.
Warner Bros. announced Friday that the adaptation of the classic manga will open on May 21, 2021. Akira is about to open in front of Lionsgate John Wick: Chapter 4. Earlier this week, Warner Bros. moved his animated film DC Super Pets off the weekend, pushing him back one year to 2022.
Akira The cyberpunk series of artist-writer Katsuhiro Otomo began his life in 1982. Otomo adapted the property as anime feature film in 1988. Taking place in Tokyo after the apocalypse, the Original story revolves around a teenager, Tetsuo, who discovers that he powerful telekinesis capabilities that threaten the world. A live-action Akira has long been discussed in Hollywood. In 2012, a version that would have embodied Garrett Hedlund had been set aside, with various filmmakers coming and going in the project that would have been an Americanized version of the story. Waititi should follow a more authentic path, declaring in 2017 that he would like to have Asian actors play in roles.
Waititi has black comedy Jojo Rabbit October 18. He is also one of the directors who directed the episodes of the Star Wars streaming series The mandalorian, which debuts in November.
Leonardo DiCaprio produced Akira although his way of appian with Andrew Lazar.
