Apple iOS 13 a IPhone owners worried, but iOS 12 is on a roll. IOS 12.2 and iOS 12.3 have both been solid updates after a chain of high level gaffes. Now, the sudden release of iOS 12.3.1 is here so you should upgrade or Apple has returned to his bad habits? Here's everything you need to know … & nbsp;
Who is it for?
iOS 12.3.1 is available for all iOS 12 compatible devices. This means iPhone 5S or later, iPad mini 2 or later, and iPod touch 6th generation or later. The upgrades should be automatic, but you can trigger them manually: Settings & gt; General & gt; Software update. iOS 12.4 beta testers (more about this at the end of this article), you have to expand your devices for iOS 12.3.1 to appear.
At about 100 MB, iOS 12.3.1 is not large, but its exact size will vary depending on the model of your iPhone or iPad.
Circuit breakers
iOS 12.3.1 breaks jailbroken devices. So jailbreakers, you have to hold fire for the moment. I expect a wait of several months based on the current rate of successful jailbreaking on iOS. & nbsp;
Initial problems? Overall, the situation is rosy, but I have a little warning. There are isolated reports from iPhone owners that iOS 12.3.1 is cutting their cellular data (1,2,3). iOS 12.3 had & nbsp;a similar problem for a small number of users but given this fault caused chaos in iOS 12.1.2 I would be patient and would wait to see if this would become widespread as users rushed to upgrade.
So what do you get?
Unlike iOS 12.3, which was jam-packediOS 12.3.1 is a dedicated bug fix. Apple lists the following issues:
- Fix a problem that could prevent VoLTE calls from being made or received
- Resolves issues in Messages that may cause messages from unknown senders to appear in your conversation list, even if the Filter Unknown Sender option is enabled.
- Fixes an issue that could prevent the Report Junk Mail link from appearing in unknown mailer message discussions.
Interestingly, I have not seen any of these issues mentioned in forums or on social media. Apples official security page Also says "This update has no CVE entries published," which gives the impression that these patches are not security-related, but it could literally mean, "Apple does not did not publish them "because she did not want to draw attention to the potential exploits existed in them.
Apple iOS 12.3.1 Verdict: Another cautious boost
Apple seems to have its third strong iOS upgrade in a row. The complaints are unusually low, with just isolated cellular data issues that give me a break. iOS 12 has a checkered history with cellular data, so some caution is advised. My suggestion: wait a week. I will update this guide in case of evolution (negative or positive).
Note: my advice would be always wait a week (why choose to be a guinea pig?), but I know that many owners of iPhone and iPad simply can not wait.
The way to go
Apple is currently testing the beta version of iOS 12.4. It is so early in the testing process that no advanced features have been added but, as a "major" version, they will be. I suspect that its release will coincide with the launch of the Apple card and will bring a new companion app, but this will only be the beginning. Watch this place.
