The National Weather Service recommends that beachgoers be very cautious before heading to the Gulf tonight and Sunday.

The Mobile Weather Service has put in place a high tear risk along the beaches of Alabama and northwestern Florida. The high risk will be in place by Sunday night.

High risk means that water will be dangerous for all swimmers.

The weather service reported receiving a large number of archival reports and expecting these conditions to last until Sunday.

Last year, five deaths were attributed to return currents in Alabama alone.

Meteorological Service Tip: If you are caught in a breakout current, do not panic or try to push it down. Shout for help and stay calm. If you have to swim in a return stream, swim parallel to the shore and return to the beach when possible.
