HOOVER, Alaska – Vanderbilt Baseball will play in the NCAA Tournament for the 14th consecutive year as the SEC's top scorer and host an NCAA regional for the seventh time in its history.

None of these is surprising for the Commodores, who rank # 2 in the US TODAY coaches poll. But both were formalized Sunday night with the NCAA's announcement of regional host sites.

Vanderbilt (49-10) will host the Nashville Regional at Hawkins Field, starting Friday. The 64 teams of the NCAA tournament will be announced at 11 am on Monday at ESPNU. It's also when Vanderbilt gets to know the other three teams from his regional team.

The other 15 regional host schools are Georgia (44-15), Georgia Tech (41-17), LSU (37-24), North Carolina (42-17), Oregon State (36-18-1), Arkansas ( 41 -17), East Carolina (43-15), UCLA (47-8), Louisville (43-15), Texas Tech (39-17), West Virginia (37-20), Ole Miss (37-25), Stanford (41-11), Mississippi State (46-13) and Oklahoma (35-18).

The regional announcement follows the title of the SEC tournament

The regional host sites were announced an hour after Vanderbilt won the SEC title by beating Ole Miss 11-10 on Philip Clarke's single. The Commodores became the first team since 2007 to win regular season titles and SEC tournaments.

The 16 best regions of the NCAA tournament, with four teams in a double elimination round, host the regions. Each regional winner advances into a super region, where two teams compete in a best-of-three series to go to the College World Series.

Vanderbilt hosted his last regional tournament in 2016, but hosted a regional super last season after winning the Clemson Regional. The Commodores played in a regional squad for 14 consecutive years for the SEC's longest running streak and the nation's third-longest, advancing only the states of Florida and Cal State Fullerton.

But Cal State Fullerton, with a record of 27-26 this season, should see his series finish Monday. That would push Vanderbilt to No. 2 on the list.
