Lee, guiding himself on the stage with a cane while walking arm in arm with his mother, the studio audience supported him just as quickly with his sweet spirit and a story of accomplishment facing a challenge.

"I'm going to sing a song for you at the piano," he said after the new judge, Gabrielle Union, asked him questions about his audition.

Tina Lee presented an overview of the audience and the jury, which includes Union of Newcomers and Julianne Hough and veterans Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel.

"We discovered that he loved music very early, he listened and his eyes became huge and he started to sing," she said.

"Thanks to music and performance, he was able to resist life in this world, because when you're autistic, it's really hard to do what everyone else does," she said. "In fact, it saved his life by playing music."

She then accompanied her son to the piano, squatting to offer a last word of motivation.

"It's your time, okay?" she says. "You're ready?

"Yeah!" he has answered.

Was he ever. Lee cleverly struck the opening notes of Leon Russell's "A Song for You," then introduced a soulful voice, complemented by an effective falsetto, which showed a talent for music and an ability to pull the strings of the heart.

Cowell was immediately hypnotized and was the first to get up when Lee finished, training the judges and the audience in a standing ovation. Hough's eyes shone when she said, "I can not stop crying."

Cowell said Lee's performance was "amazing … you have a really beautiful tone, thank you very much for trusting us in this show, I will remember this moment for the rest of my life."

Union, thinking about her own experience as a new mother, spoke to Tina Lee about the joys and challenges of motherhood and how "you just want to give your kids the moon, the stars and the rainbows", before to give his colleagues a better and offer his own gift: golden ringtone.

As golden confetti flew to the floor, other members of the Lee family and judges invaded the stage to offer hugs and congratulations, while Kodi Lee applauded and jumped when tears ran down her cheek.

When Kodi Lee left the scene, it was clear that he had understood the importance of his accomplishment. "The ring of gold!" he said emphatically, before starting to laugh seriously.

Union closed the festivities with a hug and a final eulogy: "You have just changed the world!"
