DRAFT NEWS: Ja Morant to undergo surgery, R.J. Barrett refuses Grizzlies private training

There was some last week's news at the top of the table that might or might not affect the New York Knicks. Murray State playmaker Ja Morant will undergo a small knee surgery on Monday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Morant – NBA's # 2 selection this month – will undergo a minor arthroscopic knee procedure on Monday, league sources told ESPN.

Morant is expected to be fully recovered within three to four weeks, sources said.

Woj reiterated that the Memphis Grizzlies, who hold No. 2 pick in the repechage, are stuck on Morant, and that this minor procedure should do nothing to make them change their mind, but it still deserves to be watched. Apart from pelicans picking up Zion Williamson at No. 1, nothing is written about this project.

Meanwhile, the presumptive choice No. 3 R.J. Barrett apparently does everything he can to avoid Memphis. He has already stated publicly that he would prefer to be third in the Knicks or fourth in the Lakers. He also rejected the request of the Grizzlies' private coach.

I'm not very high on Barrett, but I think he has better prospects than Morant. And if I were a true Barrett believer, the thought of Memphis changing his mind the night of the repechage would make my back cold. After all, it would not be the first time that an announced draft pick would try to head to New York, only to get picked up early (see: Curry, Steph).
