Serena Williams showed a "bad personality," said men's tennis player Dominic Thiem.

Williams, a three-time champion at Roland Garros, was beaten on Saturday by compatriot Sofia Kenin in the third round of the competition.

Williams was often frustrated during the match, failed to convert a crucial break point in the first set and was quickly broken in the second. Although his service confused Kenin, the 20-year-old showed great performance by converting her own break points, sealing a win in straight sets at Roland Garros.

The court crowd of Philippe Chatrier booed Kenin and applauded Williams, who left the arena to address the media at a press conference.

The only problem was that Thiem was already using the newsroom after defeating Pablo Cuevas against the Suzanne-Lenglen court earlier in the day.

But to welcome Williams, Thiem was invited to leave the room, which he later complained to Eurosport Germany.

"I was not angry or frustrated," he said. "Maybe for a few minutes or so.It's just the principle … even if a junior player is present, every player has to wait."

This is not the first time Williams faces criticism. She had sadly experienced a mid-game crisis during the US Open 2018 finals, accusing the chair umpire of being a "thief".

Thiem said that being kicked out of a press conference to make way for Williams "shows a bad personality". He added, "I'm 100% sure that Federer or Nadal would never do such a thing."

According to Eurosport, Federer himself said that "something went wrong for this to happen".

Federer said: "There is always a way to go, whoever is still in the tournament has priority. If I would have lost, I would leave [the opponent] start or decide when he wants to go to the press because he has the next match.

"I understand Dominic's frustration, for him it's just a question of how it happened in the world?"

Thiem faces Gael Monfils in the round of 16 on Monday.
