The MLB project will begin in about six hours. This leaves us with a last set of false plans to see who the Yankees can choose with the 30th overall pick. It is not surprising that the bombers take an infielder in all the simulacra; it's their goal all season.

Volpe, a stopover at Delabarton School (Morristown, NJ), ranks 63rd out of MLB Pipeline's top 200 candidates. He is a little higher in the top 500 of Baseball America, recording the number 52. His bat lacks power, but he has a powerful tool and launches the ball in all areas. The solid defense of Volpe and his solid makeup distinguish him however. Although he seems to be a quality player, I'm not sold on the Yankees using their first-round pick on a decidedly second-round talent – especially when Volpe is very attached to Vanderbilt.
Callihan, third base player at Providence High School (Jacksonville, FL), is in the Yankees wheelhouse as a potential customer 35 by MLB Pipeline and 37 at Baseball America. Left-handed hitter with good power and enough defense to stay in third place, it makes sense as a Yankees target.
As for Hoese, MLB Pipeline says that Tulane's third baseman "… is in charge of the right-handed right-hand man." He is patient at the plate and his shot pulls the balloon in the air. The Yankees love players with big tools and the power and angle of Hoese launch could seduce them. He was selected on lap 35 by the Kansas City Royals last year, but chose not to sign.
It should also be noted that many of the false plans suggested that the Yankees kept an eye on right-handed Jack Leiter. It has a high selling price and a strong commitment to Vanderbilt, but if it is actually drafted tonight, the evaluators think it would be the Yankees or the Mets.
