The Michelin Guide returned to Los Angeles for the first time in nearly 10 years as part of the first all-California restaurant guide. At Huntington Beach's awards ceremony tonight, Michelin's international director, Gwendal Poullennec, congratulated the state for its culinary diversity and agricultural wealth: "Our inspectors were impressed by the way whose chefs could use local ingredients and use them. in a unique way. "
Despite a lot of pressure, the Red Guide has almost entirely focused on its well-used playbook, awarding stars to more upscale dining establishments that predominantly dominate Europe or Japan. Stars such as Curtis Stone's Mori Sushi and Maude have been singled out, although at least some of Los Angeles' wide variety of restaurants stand out among the one- and two-star entrants. It should also be noted that Poullennec made it clear that the guide this year would be available immediately online in English, Spanish and Mandarin.
Despite the increased emphasis on gastronomy in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, there was no new three-star restaurant in California. Vespertine, arguably the city's most unique (and most expensive) meal, has managed only two of the previous winners, such as Urasawa and Providence.
Some of the most popular restaurants in the city have been completely closed, including Bestia, Bavel, Republique, Felix and much of the San Gabriel Valley. Orange County received two stars in total, one for Taco Maria and another for the HaNaRe sushi restaurant. San Diego received only one star for the gourmet restaurant Addison. The only Mexican restaurant to receive a star was Taco Maria, and no Korean restaurant was on the list. Santa Barbara and its surroundings have not received a star.
