The iPad gets the support of the mouse – Quartz

Today, at its annual event for developers, Apple unveiled a host of updates that will soon be available on the iPad.

The tablet gets its own operating system, called iPadOS, nine years after its creation, which will bring a host of new features of file management and multitasking that will make it look like a computer.

But there is one thing missing from the iPad, especially the iPad Pro, which has been marketed as a replacement for PC: the support of the mouse. Apple introduced a stylus called the pencil in 2015 with the introduction of the original iPad Pro, but it has never been easier to use to select text or navigate on a Web page as well as a mouse.

Even though this was not mentioned on stage, it seems that when iPadOS is launched in the fall (with iOS 13), iPad owners will be able to control their devices with a Bluetooth or wired mouse, as a frequent developer and detective with Steve Troughton-Smith discovered today:

Troughton-Smith used the first iOS 13 developer beta and found the feature in the iPad's accessibility features, designed to make it easier for users with different capabilities to interact with Apple devices. It is unclear if mouse support will be easier to find when launching the new software in the fall and whether it will be supported by new hardware designed for the iPad. Apple was not immediately available to comment.
