A string of North Carolina smoothies closed two of its stores – and put two canned workers – after customers found racist comments instead of their name on receipts this weekend, according to a report released on Monday.
In one of Smoothie King's hard-to-digest receipts, the word-n was printed instead of a woman's name on Sunday afternoon. The other quoted the name of a Korean-American man as "Jackie Chan" in a different store in the Charlotte area a few hours later, according to Charlotte Observer.
"My aunt just wanted a smoothie! It's ridiculous and sick, [the worker] must be fired! »The niece of the woman fulminated on Twitter.
On Monday, the company said it had fired two responsible employees and closed the shops for an emergency "training" session to "make sure nothing like this happens again," the newspaper said.
"Today, two franchises in our franchise stores in Charlotte are totally unacceptable and go against all the values we stand for. Two members of our team wrote inappropriate racial remarks about our guests, "said a Smoothie King newspaper reporter.
In a Facebook post, the Korean-American customer said he was still angry.
"Today, I have left this shop furious inside, trying not to let my young children know what had just happened," said customer, Tony Choi, on Facebook. "But the three employees who worked there at the time could not help but laugh."
