CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Two local Smoothie King franchises were temporarily closed after employees at two stores in the Charlotte area were fired after including racial epithets on customer receipts.
The first incident occurred Sunday afternoon at Smoothie King, off the mountain. Holly-Huntersville Road, near Latta Grove. A customer took the picture of a receipt with the n-word written on it after ordering a drink at the store.
The receipt photo was then posted on social media by a family member who tagged Smoothie King. The company initially indicated that it was investigating the case after the client had stated that "her aunt just wanted a smoothie! It's ridiculous and sick … "
A second incident occurred at the location of Davis Lake Smoothie King.
Both employees were fired according to the company.
"Today, two franchises from our Charlotte franchise stores are totally unacceptable and run counter to all the values we champion," Smoothie King CEO Wan Kim said in response to a request for information from WBTV News about the incidents. "Two members of our team MPs wrote inappropriate racial remarks about our guests.
On Monday, a third person posted on Facebook said he was also victimized.
"I was just in this Smoothie King with my kids. Instead of asking my name. Zack H. thought it would be fun to say "Jackie Chan" as my name, "said Tony Choi. "Being Korean, I find that very insulting. But the three employees who worked there at the time could not help laughing. "
Choi then wrote, "I am a victim of racism here and there and do not usually bother me. Today, I left this shop furious inside, trying not to let my young children know what had just happened.
Smoothie King responded to several inquiries regarding the position by stating, "We have zero tolerance for acts for which a guest is disrespectful. The two team members were fired by their respective franchisees and the stores will be closed while the training ends. "
Senator Mujtaba Mohammed from District 38 of North Carolina tweeted about the incident later Sunday night, calling Smoothie King to propose a "resolution" and a public apology to the clientele and the city.
"I am upset," said Senator Mohammed in the Twitter article. "The path and process Smoothie King and his staff have chosen to follow weigh heavily on me and at the end of the day, we all want to be treated with respect and dignity."
Smoothie King later responded to Senator Mohammed's tweet, claiming that they had fired the employee responsible for the Mount incident. Holly-Huntersville Road.
Senator Mohammed told WBTV News that he was "relieved that Smoothie King is acting swiftly to remedy this unacceptable behavior at their two locations in District 38 of the Senate.
He extolled the diversity of Senate District 38 in the statement made Sunday night at WBTV and said he "wholeheartedly believed that diversity is our strength and must be respected and valued … need to do this that Smoothie King did tonight, the good thing. "

Senator Mohammed would have met with staff there as soon as possible to discuss the matter.
