Mets implore US Patent Office to deny Tom Brady's claim "Tom Terrific"

Last month, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reportedly filed for the protection of the "Tom Terrific" brand in anticipation of the launch of the brand.

The New York Mets are not happy with that.

Brady's TEB Capital, owner of its well-established brand TB12, has filed a patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office to protect the phrase for use on apparel and a range of trading cards, according to the firm Gerben Law Firm of Philadelphia, PLLC.

In the case of the Mets, there is only one pitcher, Tom Terrific – Tom Seaver, Hall of Fame member, who has won three Cy Young Awards and helped lead the Mets to the 1969 World Series. .

Apparently upset by Brady's assertion, the Mets presented their case to the USPTO on Monday. But they did not do it in a legal deposit.

They posted their grievance on Twitter.

Another victory for Brady on New York?

We do not know how much Twitter advocacy with the USPTO is going on in the settlement of this type of dispute. Here's what to guess.

And if the Mets or Seaver have not previously claimed the "Tom Terrific" brand, this could be another for Brady on a fan base tortured in New York.

If the Mets really want to win this fight, they should probably seek the help of the New York Giants.
