Microsoft seems to be changing the Xbox application on Windows 10 to "Xbox Console Companion," which we saw this morning after installing the latest version of the application on a PC Insider. After installing the latest update, a pop-up window explaining that the application is set to become "a dedicated application for the features and settings of your console" appears. The message then mentions a "new office experience" to come.

This new Xbox desktop solution was previously mentioned in a recent update that removed group mail from the Xbox app. Microsoft had then explained that it would streamline its Xbox application to focus on console settings. "After the transition, we will remove group mail from this application to focus on console settings and simplify our applications. But be assured that a desktop solution for group mail will be coming soon, so be sure to update Windows to get new Xbox applications and experiences when they are available, "reads in a pop-up message.
For now, however, the Xbox Companion application on Windows 10 works like the existing Xbox application, and we did not notice any missing features after using it. The Game Delivery feature from an Xbox One console, which is probably the main feature of the app, is also present in the Xbox Console Companion app.
We will probably learn more about the new Xbox experience on the Microsoft desktop at the company's Sunday E3 press conference. It might have something to do with Project xCloud, Microsoft's next game streaming service that will probably require a dedicated client on Windows PCs. Whatever the case may be, Microsoft may soon have three different Xbox branded apps on Windows 10: the UWP Companion app for Xbox console, the new Xbox game bar, and a new mysterious desktop solution.
