Google stops supporting Google Trips for Android

Google Travel was reorganized on the web last month with many Google Trips features. Android 1.14 now confirms that stand-alone mobile clients will be "disabled" because the feature will be integrated with other Google services.

About APK InsightIn this 'APK Insight' article, we have decompiled the latest version of an app that Google has uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we are able to see different lines of code in this indication of possible future features. Do not forget that Google may or may not offer these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We will, however, try to allow those who are about to be finished to show you what they look like in the case they are shipped. With that in mind, read on.

Our APK preview of Google Trips for Android today reveals a farewell message to come which will urge users to sunset.

Many of your favorite features will be stored in other Google products.

Google had already hinted in May that a shutdown of dedicated machines would occur as part of a evolution:

As we continue to evolve Google Trips, we make this information more accessible on google.com/travel, Google Search, and Google Maps.

We now know details, such as how Google will "stop taking over" the application. Trips will encourage users to search for "favorite features" in other services, such as the new Travel website with a main theme and the Google Search app. Full feature parity – offline features and maps – is likely to point to Google Maps, which is expected to add travel packages in the coming months.

Update: The "Learn more" page has been spotted by XDA Google noting that the support "will end on August 5, 2019." According to the help document, Trips notes will arrive on the Google Travel website, while travel bookings on Google Maps will be located in Your places> Reservations to come.

However, version 1.14 leaves some ambiguity about the fact that the application will stop working for existing users who already have it installed. A pair of strings – one of which is in the past – implies that Trips might continue to work, but some features will not work in the future.

At the present time, this disabling wizard is not yet available in Google Trips for Android or iOS and apps are still available for download.
