What does Queen Elizabeth really think of Donald Trump?

While President Trump's visit to Britain is making headlines around the world, royal observers are on high alert. The American president is quite controversial and, over the years, he has forged many tense relationships with other world leaders. Still, it's the second time Queen Elizabeth has invited Trump for a visit.

The British royal family is however slightly different. They are proud to stay above the fray and hide their personal feelings about American politicians from the public eye. Queen Elizabeth is a perfect example, standing well above the fray despite the occasional trump plays between Trump and some members of the royal family.

Donald Trump talked about Princess Diana in the past

Trump is well known for his tendency to express himself on social media and to members of the press. After the divorce of Princess Diana with Prince Charles, Trump, who was very involved in the hotel business at the time, would have continued frantically. He would have sent flowers and gifts to his apartment. Diana was apparently not a fan of her advances and avoided contacting him.

In some of the many interviews with radio shock Howard Stern, Trump admitted that he had always thought that Diana was of great beauty and that he would have slept with her "without any hesitation". His thrilling comments certainly did not offend Stern, but Diana's sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, were less than pleased with the comments.

None of the princes spoke about Trump's words, and they probably will not. The tradition of the royal family is that they avoid the tragedy at any cost, regardless of their personal feelings.

Meghan Markle does not like Donald Trump

Meghan Markle is a royal who has no problem in publicizing his feelings about Trump. Before her relationship with Harry, while she was still acting SuitMeghan slammed Trump, calling him misogynist. She even claimed that when he won the 2016 presidential election, she would like to settle in Canada.

Some reports suggest that Trump could have shared Meghan's feelings, but he spoke on Twitter and said he never said anything negative about Meghan. In either case, it is likely that Meghan will not need to meet Trump at all during her last visit, as she is still on maternity leave.

Queen Elizabeth has spent a lot of time with Trump, but do not expect her to show anything but royal hospitality.

Queen Elizabeth avoids political comment

Queen Elizabeth is still the head of the entire royal family. She has the last word for all diplomatic visits. The queen has maintained a genuine British "stiff upper lip", even in the face of some protocol misses that Trump has created. His Majesty has also never hinted that his remarks about Diana had affected him. On the contrary, she did everything possible to be polite to Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, and even matched their outfits to the couple during a diplomatic ceremony.

If she feels differently in private, it's something that will probably never be known. Queen Elizabeth is far too experienced to allow herself an error that could reveal that she is not really a fan of Trump.

The monarch certainly offered Trump royal treatment during the first part of his visit, including extraordinary gifts, private meals, a grand welcoming ceremony and exclusive tours of historic sites around London. Only time will tell if Trump's visit to the UK will get a little worse.
