Six things to know about Tuesday's match
1) Noah Syndergaard gave the Mets a quality start for the second time in a row, but the support for the race was just not there for him at first. Syndergaard threw 6.2 innings, awarding three earned runs to 103 shots. After the Mets gave him a lead in sixth place, he was obviously unhappy when Mickey Callaway chose to pull him out of the game in favor of Seth Lugo with two to seventh apart. He left the mound with a lead, but it would not hold.
2) Lugo allowed a single person to Evan Longoria give the Giants first and third places with two outs in the seventh inning. Brandon's Belt then lined up a ball on Michael ConfortoHead to the right. The tied run scored, but Longoria was down to the plate, setting the score between 3-3 and six-and-a-half innings. Lugo came back to start the eighth inning, as he worked around a simple pre-game to lead the run unscathed.
3) Things went wrong for Robert Gsellman in the 10th inning. After allowing the first two batters to reach, Gsellman disengaged a wild pitch, followed by a two-point double by Stephen Vogt. Some drummers later, Pablo Sandoval tore a double two points down the third base line out of Hector Santiago. In total, Gsellman was scored five points in the third inning, while the Giants added six points in the frame.
4) The Mets bats came to life in the sixth inning. After Madison Bumgarner close them in five sleeves, Pete Alonso has regained his usual antics, slamming his 20th homerun. His solo shot put the Mets on the board, making 2-1 Giants at the end of the sixth inning. Later in the round, Wilson Ramos shot a Bumgarner field in the left seats, giving the Mets a 3-2 lead. The Mets have now conceded 11 straight home games.
5) Edwin Diaz entered a tied game in the ninth inning for the Mets. Diaz allowed a one-two, but he pulled out to keep the game tied.
6) The Mets welcomed Jeff McNeil Back to training on Tuesday, he immediately made his presence known with a first extract of Bumgarner. McNeil was left stranded at second base on a JD Davis double ball.
