The bow of redemption.
By Jordan Sirani
The stakes are important for Bethesda which is entering the E3 2019. What will be only its fifth press conference at the annual exhibition will also be the most crucial point, as the editor comes out of the Year and is troubled by the surrounding controversy Benefits 76.
This series of public relations disasters at the end of 2018, ranging from nylon bags and half-cooked features to hacking, computer hacking and compromised player data, has tarnished the reputation of one of the most most appreciated games. Now, the E3 scene offers Bethesda the opportunity to pull herself together and chase away the ghosts of Vault 76. But to do that, she will have to rely on the breadth of her internal development studios.
The Elder Scrolls Online will almost certainly be back. It has been featured at the previous four Bethesda press conferences at E3, and 2019 should not be different. The Machine and Id Software games both have games launched in the months following E3. So expect to see them on stage also with Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Doom Eternal, respectively.
If you're hoping for something unexpected, pay attention to Arkane Studios and Tango Gameworks. Arkane is working with Machine Games on Youngblood, but now is a good time to unveil his new project. Tango, meanwhile, has remained silent since the release of The Evil Within 2 in 2017. Will the horror developer reveal another sequel or an entirely new and twisted project?
Then there is Bethesda Game Studios. Despite the controversy, Fallout 76 should return to the scene. Bethesda is an opportunity to highlight the improvements made since its launch and to discuss future content.
And while it bothered both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 2018, Todd Howard had previously tempered expectations by announcing that BGS would only show one of these next generation RPGs at this year's event . Bethesda will probably be starring on Starfield until the E3 2020 at the earliest, the last show before the announced launch of next-generation consoles. The return of the VI Elder Scrolls to step E3 should occur even later, as it should be published after the RPG space.
Bethesda is dealing with a pessimistic fan, scorned, who would love nothing so much as to see her go back up. Perhaps the E3 2019 will serve as a framework for the first chapter of its repurchase history.
