BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The mother of an 11-year-old minibike boy fatally hit by a South Michigan sheriff's deputy said his son was not at fault.
Christina Valadez said Tuesday at a press conference with her lawyer that Norman Hood was "a good kid" who was just trying to cross a street.
The MP was responding to a report about a possible burglary when he hit the boy at around 9:30 pm May 28th at Battle Creek, about 193 kilometers west of Detroit. The sheriff's office said it seemed like the bike had turned in the path of the car.
Valadez's lawyer, Don Sappanos, says that there is evidence that the deputy minister was rushing.
Authorities did not reveal how fast the car was going. The deputy minister had not activated the chandeliers and siren of his vehicle. State police investigation.
