Each year, a few thousand associates are selected by their peers to travel to northwestern Arkansas for Associates Week and Annual Meeting.

The big box retailer has "about 1,000 employees from our 26 countries and this energy will be extraordinary," Judith McKenna, CEO of Walmart International, told Yahoo Finance.
"For many of them, it will be the first time they will go," she added.
The annual gathering, held in Fayetteville, Arkansas, just steps from Walmart's hometown, Bentonville, attracts an audience of nearly 14,000 investors and employees to listen to senior management, listen to music live and celebrate the partners.
"We're going to talk about innovation, new ways of working and creativity, but this week is a celebration of our associates," McKenna said.
"So all we are going to talk about is going to be people-centered, and around them," she added.
The largest US employer holds huge stakes in retail, real estate and human capital.
In order to secure a place, Walmart Associates attending the annual conference are part of something that looks like a lottery.
According to the company, all odd-numbered stores in the United States this year may send an hourly associate who has been working for the company for at least a year – and who has achieved the "Solid Performer" rating or higher, and retains the Walmart stock. . By 2020, even-numbered stores will do the same.
For the international division, the process is slightly different and varies from country to country.
"Very often, they have a selection process, so people who come to be great ambassadors in the shop are appointed by other associates, and chosen to go," said McKenna, adding that there were "different reasons" for choosing participants.
"But we tell everyone that they are there for a reason, and because they are special," she added.
Dorms, meetings and "a day of celebration"
During the week, co-workers stay in dormitories on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, where they will meet people from around the world. They will attend meetings of their respective business units where they will discover innovations for the stores.

McKenna attended its first meeting nearly 20 years ago, a few years after Walmart's acquisition of Asda in 1998 and its entry into the UK market.
