WELCOME TO THE MARTHA NETWORK | Later, June goes to two marthas in Lawrence's kitchen. They plan to help another person escape, but when the captain sees a stranger at home, he gets really angry – and June's attempts to intervene do not help. But he also has not closed everything, so June asks the Martians to let her participate in their operations. They say no, but eventually give in and very soon, June is disguised as a martha and accompanies when she drops a woman named Allison to a relay. Later that night, however, things are pear-shaped. An injured martha shows up at the Lawrence House and is hidden in the basement, but the guards who shot her are close behind. The commander is furious that all this is happening and orders June to fix things. As he prepares to let the guards in, June panics when she realizes that the woman's blood is on the wall. But then, Mrs. Lawrence, apparently cured of what hurt her earlier, calmly takes care of cleaning up the mess so that June can witness the horror show downstairs.
The wounded woman makes a lot of noise, so much so that June starts screaming "Shut up!" (Then apologize immediately) to prevent her from getting the attention of the guards. The tutors eventually leave, but it is too late: the woman dies. June told the martha who was with her to take her place in the mission, because otherwise all this effort would be useless.
Lawrence was not calmer with the situation, in case you wondered. "Women like you are like children, ask too much, accept what you want, but the consequences," he spits. She apologizes and tries to change tactics by asking questions about Mrs. Lawrence, but he shouts after her: "Do not pretend to talk to me about my wife!" He then demands that she dispose of the body of martha alone. It takes her a while, but she digs a grave and puts the woman there, then makes a prayer on her last resting place. Later in the episode, Mrs. Lawrence will plant flowers in the new mound of earth.
Later, as she bathes in the tub, Lawrence's other martha, Beth, brings an ointment to June's torn hands. "When they are healed, I will give you butter. That's what we use to keep them soft, "she says, pronouncing the sentence in the book that has struck me most after all these years, for whatever reason. Beth reports that Lawrence sent Cora away, the other martha: "He does not like liars".
When June meets Ofmatthew the next day, the perverse reflex can not help but talk to another servant who recently died in a road accident. "His walking partner broke," says June.
