The E3 2019 may be close, but for Pokemon fans (and many of you), the most exciting news came on the June 5th Pokemon Direct Special. Unlike Nintendo's larger E3 Direct game next week, which will feature a number of Switch games released in 2019, this presentation focused exclusively on the much anticipated Pokemon Sword and Shield.
When Pokemon Direct aired, the release date of Sword and Shield was confirmed, and we had a look at the new Pokemon – including Legendaries – as well as the new multiplayer features and elements of the open world, among many other game details. We still have some questions to ask, such as if the random encounters have completely disappeared, but we now understand Sword and Shield much better. This is good news, knowing that their publication is in five months.
If you missed the flow, do not despair; you can watch a recap of the video above or review the whole event below. It lasts about 15 minutes and is full of new details on Pokemon, so get some snacks and get settled. We have also gathered all the most important news that has been broadcast and that you have read below. Once you have completed your article, you will be an expert of everything that has happened with Pokemon Sword and Shield until now.
Release date of the sword and shield Pokemon confirmed
At Nintendo Direct, Game Freak, developer of Pokemon, confirmed that the release date of Pokemon Sword / Shield was set for November 15th. Best of all, it's a world release date, so no one will feel left out when Poke-Fever takes place later this year. You can pre-order Sword and Shield now; in addition to the two standalone versions, a dual pack including both games will also be available.
New Legendary
Nintendo introduced us to the new Pokemon Legendary Pokemon Sword and Shield. As you can imagine, the two new legendaries embody the titles "sword" and "shield", Zamazenta having a shield-like design and Zacian holding a sword-like object in his mouth.
New characters and story details revealed
The history and characters of Pokemon Sword and Shield have been at the center of the Direct event. We met Professor Pokémon from the Galar region, your rival and the champion, and we learned that these giant stadiums we saw before were Pokémon gymnasiums.
The new Pokemon generation 8 revealed
Naturally, we have seen some of the new Generation 8 Pokémon that we can catch, bond and fight with the sword and the shield. We have also examined various types of favorites from previous generations.
Dynamax
One of the new combat elements we learned concerns an element called Dynamax. This is an option that you can activate once per battle to increase the size of your Pokémon, allowing them to use more powerful versions of their abilities.
Raid Battles
Dyanmaxing is a new type of meeting that is clearly inspired by Pokemon Go: Raid Battles. These oppose four coaches to a single enemy that will be energized throughout the fight. Beat him and you will have a chance to catch him. Your fellow coaches can be real players, but if you do not have a group of four, the AI will replace as needed.
Pokedex smartphone
Rather than the Pokedex standard, Sword and Shield offers players a Rotom phone. This is not only used to track your collection, but it also performs other functions, including, apparently, replacing the HMs of previous games.
Random Encounters
Last year 's Pokémon games for Switch, Let' s Go Eevee / Pikachu, allowed to randomly eliminate the favors of a system allowing to see wild Pokémon wandering in the nature. These were supposed to come back in Sword and Shield, but according to the presentation today, it seems that the random encounters have disappeared.
