LEIDEN, June 6 – Ikea has unveiled a robotic furniture, developed in collaboration with Ori, that can serve as bed, wardrobe, shelf and storage cabinet, sofa and room divider.
Ikea announced Tuesday that it has teamed up with American start-up Ori, to create an efficient robotic furniture system in terms of space, ideal for small rooms.
At first glance, Rognan seems to be just a storage unit with a couch connected to the base. By pressing a control on a touchpad installed on the side of the cabinet, the room slides forward, leaving a bed behind and revealing a set of wardrobes at the back of the unit.
When it is "open", Rognan can not only serve as a sofa, shelf and storage cabinet, pair of wardrobes and bed, but it can also be used to divide a room in half.
Because Rognan is built on Ori's robot platform and that it is compatible with Ikea's Platsa storage line, "people can easily change the function and appearance of Rognan ". It can be used to permanently convert a space between a closet, a living room and a bedroom.
According to Ori, this robotic system will be launched for the first time in Hong Kong and Japan next year. – AFP-Relaxnews
