NEW YORK – The return of Robinson Cano in training has lasted four times, and the New York Mets are again facing questions regarding their management of a star player's injury.
Cano was pulled out of the New York game on Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants a few hours after coming off the injured list, limping because of the contraction of the left quadriceps two weeks after initially contracting the muscle.
Cano scored two hits on the floor in two hits, including a double play ending with a run-off with goals loaded in the third. He preferred that his left leg ascend to the finish line and was beaten to the bag by about a step. Adeiny Hechavarria replaced him at the second base to start the fifth.
Cano, 36, said he did not think he needed to return to the injured list, but he will be assessed Thursday again before New York decides.
"There is just tension," said Cano. "Nothing else."
Cano said that before the match, he would be careful not to be a victim of a new injury, pointing out that it could take a few parts before he feels 100%.
His quick outing was reminiscent of Yoenis Cespedes' match with the Mets last summer, when the slugging player came out of his shelf for one night, admitted after a meeting that he might need to go out. a surgical procedure on the heels and found himself on the disabled list. Cespedes has since had the operations and has not appeared in a match.
Manager Mickey Callaway defended the treatment of Cano's injury by New York.
"We knew he was ready to be activated and play," Callaway said. "I think he understands his body more than we can evaluate it. He was superb at the end of the day. He was superb. He told us he was ready to leave and we activated him.
"I think we did everything we could, we relied on the player, we put him through intense training sessions, I think we came up with the question the right way. Some things are out of your control, so no, no regrets, I only hope that he does not hurt for a longer period of time. "
Acquired from Seattle since last season, Cano hits 238 with three homers and 14 RBIs for New York. He was accused of failing to grab a few balls on the ground this season, then injured on May 22nd running away.
Cano led the bases and did other exercises on Monday and Tuesday and was whitened after waking up on Wednesday.
The Mets beat the Giants 7-0 behind Jason Vargas's shutout.
Private Aaron Altherr has been appointed to be in charge of opening a place on the board.
