The manager of a Subway restaurant in Spring, Texas, received his pink slip this week after an overwhelming text exchange that revealed he had turned down a job for a teenage girl because of his race.
Katelyn Simmons, a senior who goes upt Klein High School, applied for a job at the sandwich chain to earn some money during the summer before resuming studies, according to ABC13. Simmons, however, was crushed after watching a text sent by the director to her friend, who works for the restaurant.
"I chose Subway because my friends work there and that's a really cool place," Simmons told Click2Houston. "I thought it would be fun and cold."
"It's really discouraging that it just falls because of the color of my skin," she added.
The teenager submitted her request Sunday and asked her friend to verify that the manager had received it. Later, the friend sent him a screenshot of their conversation.
"The girl has submitted her request. I leave it on the table for you tomorrow ", sent the employee.
The manager replied, "Ok thank you. How does she look?
