And it's going to be free
Borderlands 2 could receive free downloadable content, assuming that a leak from the Steam directory is legitimate. The page refers to an upcoming additional pack called Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary, which should be released free of charge on June 9th. It turns out that this coincides with the date of the Microsoft press conference. So expect an ad next to the new gameplay of Borderlands 3.

Presumably, this will bridge the gap between the 2012 title and its imminent sequel. If you consider that Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is currently free on PlayStation Plus – and most importantly, strongly discounted on other showcases – it seems like it's all part of Gearbox's marketing plan. It will be interesting to see if the version of the PlayStation VR also receives new content.
