Jackets for Walmart employees are undergoing a bold transformation.

The iconic blue vests worn by Walmart employees for years will be replaced by a modern gray look with a neon blue, green or pink border. Walmart recently redesigned its uniforms in 2014.

The company announced the changes Wednesday at its annual meeting of shareholders.

The new vests will be made from recycled bottles and have larger pockets than previous vests.

The vests are "neutral steel gray" and most associates will wear a bright blue border. Partners in the smaller neighborhood stores located on Walmart's neighborhood market will wear a green border. Self-service organizers at Walmart Supercentres will wear a yellow border with a gray border. And in the future, Walmart says employees will be able to choose other colors, including pink.

"Our new vests have a modernized style that takes advantage of the details of the trim and silkscreen to introduce the color in an attractive way," Walmart said in a statement.

The company said the neon color will help customers more easily identify Walmart associates.

Each vest is sewn with a "proud Walmart Associate" at the front and a newly colored "spark" logo at the back.

The larger pockets will allow associates "to carry all the equipment they need to do their work in the stores." Employees will receive the jackets later this year for free and will be able to upgrade them with specialty designs or trimmings for up to $ 11.

The new vests arrive a year after the company announced a more casual dress code.

Workers can now wear any solid color shirt. Walmart added some blue to the approved pants color scheme, making blue jeans look appropriate. Walmart said the response to these changes has been "amazing."

In addition, the new vests go hand in hand with Walmart's new, streamlined look, visible on its updated website, store changes and name.
