Kenyon Martin Jr, son of former NBA player Kenyon Martin, chose not to go to college and choose professional options, according to 247Sports.
Martin signed his letter of intent with Vanderbilt University in May, a few weeks after announcing his public engagement. Seniors who have graduated and are now heading to their university campus, Martin has changed his mind.
This news comes shortly after RJ Hampton, one of the top five players of the 2019 promotion, announced that it would happen college in favor of the professional path. In the case of Hampton, he chose to play in the NBL in Australia with the New Zealand Breakers. Naturally, this suggests that there may be a connection or at least an inspiration.
Martin is considered a 3-star candidate who would contribute several years to a major high school. He averaged nearly 17 points per game and nearly 10 rebounds per game as a senior at Sierra Canyon, according to ESPN.
It remains to be seen whether the prospects of high school avoiding the NCAA will become a real trend or not. The last two players are special cases. Martin is the son of a former prominent NBA player and will be recognized as such. Hampton is one of the top 5 prospects who has the talent to shine everywhere. It is believed that Martin has not yet signed a professional contract. So we do not know exactly where he will play next year.
