A Minneapolis police officer found guilty of murder was sentenced to 12 ½ years in prison for the deadly murder in 2017 of an unarmed woman who called 911.

Mohamed Noor was sentenced in April 2017 for third-degree murder and manslaughter on the death of Justine Ruszczyk Damond, a 40-year-old American and Australian citizen.

Noor shot Damond when she approached her team car in the driveway behind her house.

His lawyers had argued for a lighter sentence, saying his removal to prison would only make the tragedy worse and leave him unable to repair Damond's murder.

This is a story in development. Come back for updates.
