HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have fired their general manager Brian Gaine, the team said on Friday.
The Texans hired Gaine in January 2018 after former General Manager Rick Smith took a leave to take care of his wife while she was battling breast cancer. Sheath signed a five-year contract.
"After a thorough evaluation of our football business, we decided to remove Brian Gaine from his position as General Manager," said Cal McNair, CEO of Texans, in a statement.

The Texans finished last season 11 to 11 to win the AFC South, but were defeated by the Indianapolis Colts in the wild round.
Until the Texans hire the Sheath replacement, Houston football operations will be led by Chris Olsen, senior vice president of the team's football administration.
Sheath spent the 2017 season as Vice President of Buffalo Bills Player Staff.
