The "E3 press conference" as a cultural moment has faded since Nintendo aired its first Nintendo Direct in 2011. Sony's decision to refrain from holding a press conference at E3 2019 is monumental: of the three hardware manufacturers, only the Xbox persists to put on a show for the press. With time, will the show disappear forever? E3 2019 will be my eighteenth E3 and my answer is: I hope so.
