TOWNSHIP OF ALGANSEE, Mich. – According to authorities, a pickup truck at the back of an Amish horse-drawn carriage in southern Michigan reportedly killed two children and seriously injured two others as well as a woman lying in the car.
State police said the two adults and five children who were in the car were ejected when the truck arrived Friday night in the suburbs of Algansee, a small farming community not far from the Michigan borders, with Indiana and Ohio.
The children who were killed were 6 and 2 years old. They were declared dead on the scene. The authorities claim that two other children aged 3 and 4 were hospitalized for life-threatening injuries and that a woman was also seriously injured.
Sgt. Todd Price told ABC News that the driver of the van was intoxicated at the time of the accident and that he was being held at Branch County Prison. Authorities did not disclose the names of the people involved.
