(WESH) – A Florida family asks Uber for answers after stating that their 12-year-old daughter had hailed a ride in the middle of the night and then jumped out of a parking garage in downtown Orlando.
Benita's family "BB" Diamond said Thursday that their daughter would still be alive if the driver had followed Uber's policy regarding transportation of minors.
Diamond used his mother's phone to download the Uber app in the middle of the night of January 10th.
She then traveled twenty kilometers from her family's neighborhood, near Lake Nona, until downtown Orlando, climbed to the top of a parking garage, let her a note saying that she had "passed the point of no return" and then jumped.
Her parents stated that she had never been allowed to use shared ridesharing apps before and that she had taken her mother's phone as her own phone was locked. Diamond paid for the trip with a gift card that she had for Christmas.
