St. Louis Newspaper Mistakes Announcements Announcing First Blues Stanley Cup Title

A St. Louis newspaper took over on Sunday and broadcast an announcement commemorating the victory of the Blues Stanley Cup title in St. Louis.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch subscribers found the ads in the newspaper's electronic edition Sunday before the sixth game between the Blues and the Boston Bruins.

The newspaper issued a statement in which it apologized for giving some readers a glimpse of what they planned to see the Blues win their first-ever Stanley Cup final.

"In anticipation of the outcome of the Stanley Cup final, some of our readers had a glimpse of [peek] our advertisers hope to tell the Blues, the fans and St. Louis. We apologize for the stealth [peek] and hope to share their messages with everyone very soon! "

This is the first appearance of the Blues Stanley Cup final since 1970. That year, the Blues were swept by the Bruins. The Blues made two more appearances in the Stanley Cup finals in which they were also swept away.

To add insult to injury, the Bruins eventually defeated the Blues in Game 6 to force a seventh game.

The Bruins scored goals for Karson Kuhlman, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, Brandon Carlo and Zdeno Chara in 5-1. The Blues only got Ryan O'Reilly's score.

The seventh game between the Bruins and the Blues will be held Wednesday in Boston. If the Bruins win, it will be their seventh Stanley Cup trophy and the first since 2011.
