Sandra Bullock's collegial experience is the inspiration for a drama series set in the world of music and dance that is being prepared at Amazon. Bullock is the executive producer of the project with Akiva Goldsman, an Oscar winner, and the director of John Legend.

Created and written by K.C. Perry (Constancy) vaguely inspired by Bullock's years of college, the show is described as a hilarious, heartbreaking and often heart-rending hike through the oppressive cultural norms of the great South of the 1980s, where a dark, quirky young woman defies expectations and launches in search of love, community and, more importantly, an identity of its own. Bullock studied at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where she graduated with a BA in Dramatic Arts in 1987. Within the ECU, she has performed in numerous theater productions, including Peter Pan and Three sisters.

The idea for the series came from conversations with longtime friends Bullock and Goldsman who had worked together on A time to kill and Practical magic. They brought Marja-Lewis Ryan (6 balloons) to develop it further. Ryan, who is busy with his duties as showrunner on Showtime L Word next, will be a consulting producer on the Amazon project.
