Sandra Bullock, Akiva Goldsman and John Legend to Produce Drama for Amazon – Deadline

Sandra Bullock's collegial experience is the inspiration for a drama series set in the world of music and dance that is being prepared at Amazon. Bullock is the executive producer of the project with Akiva Goldsman, an Oscar winner, and the director of John Legend.

Created and written by K.C. Perry (Constancy) vaguely inspired by Bullock's years of college, the show is described as a hilarious, heartbreaking and often heart-rending hike through the oppressive cultural norms of the great South of the 1980s, where a dark, quirky young woman defies expectations and launches in search of love, community and, more importantly, an identity of its own. It's a fantastic, dance-filled journey through the worlds of the culture of resistance, mental health and the AIDS epidemic, while following a group of young people who come together and dare to be themselves. , despite the real danger they face. In doing so. It's a living, fun and funny story that tells a story about giving up shame and living out loud … and some of those things are even true.

Bullock studied at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where she graduated with a BA in Dramatic Arts in 1987. Within the ECU, she has performed in numerous theater productions, including Peter Pan and Three sisters.

The idea for the series came from conversations with longtime friends Bullock and Goldsman who had worked together on A time to kill and Practical magic. They brought Marja-Lewis Ryan (6 balloons) to develop it further. Ryan, who is busy with his duties as showrunner on Showtime L Word next, will be a consulting producer on the Amazon project.

Goldsman has also recruited its producer partners on the WGN America website. Underground , Legend Get Lifted Film Co., to help develop the series and organize the ambitious fusion of the series of different musical genres of the period, including 80s pop, timeless Southern gospel and opera.

Bullock will be producing via Fortis Films; Goldsman and Greg Lessans via Weed Road, and Legend and Mike Jackson via Get Lifted.

Perry was a writer on the CW The originals and more recently written and executive produced the Constancy pilot for TNT, which featured Elisabeth Shue. Perry was picked up in the case by Eric Feig's attorney.
