Former Auburn and Akron coach Terry Bowden will assist the Clemson football team as an unpaid trainee during his graduate studies at the school.
Bowden, 63, is enrolled in a sports leadership graduate program at Clemson, said a spokesperson at ESPN. Bowden has spent the last seven seasons running Akron, where he was 35-52 before being fired in December.
There is no timetable for the duration of Bowden's participation in the Tigers football program.
Bowden led teams at Akron, Auburn, Samford FCS, Division II Salem College and Division II North Alabama. He went 47-17-1 to Auburn, including an 11-0 season in 1993.
He is the son of Bobby Bowden, Hall of Fame coach, and the younger brother of Tommy Bowden, who led Clemson from 1999 to 2008. Clemson fired Tommy Bowden in the middle of the 2008 season and named his assistant Dabo Swinney .
After being fired at Auburn in 1998, Terry Bowden spent a decade as an analyst on television and radio, including a stint at ABC, before returning to the sidelines at North Alabama in 2009.
