NBC announced Tuesday the five moderators of the first democratic presidential primary debate, which is expected to unfold later this month.
Savannah Guthrie, Lester Holt, Chuck Todd, Rachel Maddow and José Diaz-Balart will moderate the debate taking place June 26-27 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami.
The debate, approved by the Democratic National Committee, will be broadcast live on NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo from 9pm to 11pm. AND every night.
- Holt is the presenter of "NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt" and "Dateline NBC".
- Guthrie is co-presenter of "TODAY" and Chief Legal Analyst at NBC News
- Todd is moderator of "Meet the Press with Chuck Todd" and political director of NBC News.
- Maddow is the host of "The Rachel Maddow Show" on MSNBC.
- Díaz-Balart is the anchor of "Noticias Telemundo" and "NBC Nightly News Saturday".
The two nights of debate will have the same format. Holt will be the moderator for two hours, while Guthrie and Diaz-Balart will appear alongside him in the first hour and Todd and Maddow by his side during the second hour, announced NBC News.
In total, 20 candidates will participate in the evening of two nights, 10 of them going on stage each night.
Applicants must register 1% support in three qualified polling stations or have 65,000 unique donors in their campaign, with a minimum of 200 different donors in at least 20 states, to participate in the debate. If more than 20 candidates qualify for the debate, the Democratic National Committee will use a series of tiebreakers to determine who will step onto the stage.
