A Texas mom says she's been chased from a basin in the city for breastfeeding

Misty Daugereaux was at the Nessler Park Family Aquatic Center in the City of Texas City Sunday when her 10-month-old child needed to eat.

She said that she was nursing her son quietly when a lifeguard and a manager approached and told him that it was against the rules of the pool.

"She [the manager] said Daugereaux, affiliated with CNN, KTRK. You need to cover yourself or leave, but she gave me the ultimatum. And I said, "Well, you show me in your policy where I have to cover and I'm leaving." And she told me it was not good, that I had to cover myself. It was their policy. And I said, "Well, you can call whoever you want, but I'm not going to nurse my son."

The police were called and Daugereaux, who was with his nephew and two sons, was asked to leave the pool. Texas City is located in southeast Texas, near Galveston.

"I went out feeling defeated because I could not … hold my ground," she said.

The Police Department of the City of Texas has posted on its Facebook page images of the police officer's body camera.

Texas law states that a "mother has the right to breastfeed her baby in any place where she is allowed to be."
City officials promised to review their policies and procedures in a statement released Monday.

"We, the city of Texas, are currently reviewing the nursing issues raised at the Nessler Pool and how our staff responded to our questions.We apologize to Misty Daugereaux as it was clear that she was offended The policies and procedures will be reviewed and revised as needed and any deficiencies in the actions of our employees will be corrected by additional training, "the statement said.

About half a dozen women and their young children attended a demonstration Monday to express their right to breastfeed wherever they please. Daugereaux told KTRK that most of the mothers were from a breastfeeding support group in Galveston County.

She also said that she would continue to breastfeed her son in public when he would be hungry.

A similar incident occurred last July in Mora, Minnesota, where two mothers were invited to leave a public watershed to breastfeed their children. More than a dozen mothers held a "nurse" demonstration at the pool a few days later.
