According to authorities in the Dominican Republic, a second suspect was arrested after firing at the icon of Red Sox player David Ortiz.

The person in custody would not be the man who would have shot at the retired slugger, the authorities added. This second suspect has not been identified and a third is wanted.

The arrest comes after a suspect has been charged with "attempted homicide" and "criminal conspiracy" in connection with the shooting, according to his lawyer.

Eddy Feliz Garcia, who reportedly confessed to having played a role in the shooting, says he has not shot Ortiz, said his lawyer, Bunel Ramirez Meran, on Tuesday night. Meran said that Garcia was innocent.

ABC News's indictments showed that in addition to an attempted homicide and criminal conspiracy, Garcia was also charged with "intentionally causing injury by using an illegal firearm".

Garcia has been remanded while a judicial proceeding is under way, according to documents.

Apparently, Garcia tried to flee the nightclub after the shooting, but the spectators immediately stopped him and attacked him before he was handed over to the police and taken to the hospital to be there. cared for. He was then placed in custody.

Ortiz underwent a second surgery at a Boston hospital for injuries after being shot in a bar in the Dominican Republic on Sunday in an attack that appeared to be a targeted ambush, the woman's former player announced on Tuesday. baseball in a statement.

Shortly after being shot, Ortiz was taken to the Abel Gonzalez Advanced Medicine Center in Santo Domingo, where he underwent his first surgery. Ortiz's father told reporters that the bullet had penetrated his son's back and had gone out through his abdomen.

Dr. Abel Gonzalez, who practiced the operation, said that part of the intestines and liver of Ortiz had been removed.

The shooting took place Sunday night at the Dial Bar and Lounge, a nightclub in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic.
