The lyrics site Genius says that he surprised Google copying the lyrics "in the act"

Genius is probably one of the most popular lyrics websites, but it says Google does not just steal traffic with the search giant's lyrics feature.

The lyrics site says to the the Wall Street newspaper that Google uses the lyrics directly from Genius.com. In addition, the website reportedly alerted Google of violations in 2017 and again in April.

"Over the past two years, we've been showing Google irrefutable evidence over and over again, showing lyrics copied from Genius," said a site representative.

This "irrefutable proof" is incorporated into the lyrics because Genius uses a specific pattern of straight and curly apostrophes. Once converted to Morse Code, the pattern is "in the act". He claims to have found more than 100 examples of stolen lyrics via this method.

Google told the Wall Street newspaper these lyrics are licensed from partners rather than created by Mountain View. The firm later added that it was investigating the problem and that it would end agreements with partners that "did not respect good practices".

LyricFind, a Google Text partner, denied having extracted content from Genius, claiming that he was producing the lyrics via his own content team. Anyway, it seems that it took some time for Google to investigate the allegations. What do you do with these claims? Let us know in the comments!
